Pregnancy Services in Natchitoches, Louisiana

The Women’s Resource Center Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic of Natchitoches, Louisiana

The Women’s Resource Center was founded in 1989 in Natchitoches, LA as a non-profit 501 c 3 organization to offer services, assistance, and guidance to young women facing difficult life situations most often due to unplanned pregnancies. Through the years, the WRC has served thousands of women and children with services, education, training, and support at no charge to the clients. Our mission statement reads “ The Women’s Resource Center, Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic exists to educate and empower individuals to make life affirming choices.” Services are available to women of any age regardless of ethnic origin, educational level, socio-economic status, or religious orientation.

In 2006, the WRC became a Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic of Natchitoches. While the mission never changed, many new services were added to assist young women. In addition to material assistance, we began offering limited obstetrical ultrasound, prenatal education, breastfeeding assistance, and post partum follow-up. Because of the generous giving of individual supporters, organizations, churches and businesses, we continue to offer excellent services without charge. The young women we see are quite often young, experiencing unplanned pregnancies, and needing mentoring and guidance throughout the pregnancy.

The health of women and children is of utmost concern. Through our educational efforts, literature, and services we make aware to the younger population the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases, lack of medical care, and help them to take ownership of their health and future by making life affirming choices.

We are staffed almost entirely by trained volunteers. Our Medical Director, Dr. Marin Aviles, OB/GYN donates his time to oversee medical issues of the Center.

The staff includes a registered nurse two volunteer registered nurses and women who commit themselves on a weekly basis to help improve the future of the next generation. Many others volunteer their time in numerous ways to enable the funds raised by the WRC to be used to meet the needs of the clients. Each quarter more than 500 hours in volunteer time are recorded.

The WRC also serves as an important liaison between our clients and local social services, physicians, educational institutions, and any other service available in this area.

The Women’s Resource Center of Natchitoches is the largest organization of its type in size and scope in central Louisiana. Within walking distance of Northwestern State University, we see hundreds of young women from all over the central Louisiana region. Our statistics show that women, children, families and communities not only from Natchitoches are benefited by the WRC but also other parishes including Sabine, Winn, Rapides, Red River, and DeSoto.
